Beijing, Beijing Shi May 15, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - On May 11, the unveiling ceremony of the China Book Corner in Bangladesh and Reading China China-Bangladesh Youth Exchange were held at the National Library of Bangladesh. Nearly 300 guests and representatives from both China and Bangladesh attended the event.
The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen stated that as traditional friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic cooperative partners, China and Bangladesh share a history of cultural exchanges spanning millennia. He expressed hope that the China Book Corner would serve as a high-level and high-quality platform for cultural exchange, helping the two peoples deepen mutual understanding and appreciation of each others cultures, and advancing substantive people-to-people exchanges.
Md. Mofidur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, remarked that in this era of globalization, countries are increasingly interconnected. China and Bangladesh have achieved extensive cooperation in infrastructure development and strategic partnerships alongside thriving economic ties. Now is the ideal time to expand this collaboration into the cultural sphere. The China Book Corner will open a new window to understand Chinese culture and marks the beginning of a shared journey between the two nations.
Du Zhanyuan, President of China International Communications Group (CICG), stated that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, the establishment of the China Book Corner in Bangladesh and the launch of Reading China China-Bangladesh Youth Exchange event are concrete steps to further implement the important outcomes of the meeting between the two countries leaders. These initiatives aim to deepen people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, gathering strength and wisdom for lasting friendship and shared development between China and Bangladesh. He emphasized that books are vital carriers for the transmission and mutual enrichment of human civilizations. He expressed hope that young people will embrace books as companions and use literature as a bridge, enhancing mutual understanding through reading and communication, and injecting youthful vitality into the enduring development of China-Bangladesh cultural ties.
Mostafa Sarwar Farooki, Advisor of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, stated that China and Bangladesh have long been trustworthy and friendly partners. The establishment of the China Book Corner is an important achievement in implementing the spirit of the meeting between the two countries leaders, and it stands as an outstanding example of China-Bangladesh cultural cooperation. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that both sides will continue to deepen their cooperation, enhance exchanges in the cultural field, and expand diversified collaboration in areas such as new media and film.
During the China-Bangladesh Youth Exchange session, Mostak Ahamed Galib, Executive Director of the Center for Intercultural Communication and BRI Studies, Wuhan University of Technology, noted that the enduring friendship between China and Bangladesh has profound historical roots. He called on the youth of both nations to work together in building a community with a shared future for mankind and to create a harmonious and beautiful future together.
Zeng Qiong, a professor from the School of Asian Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University shared stories of cultural exchange between China and Bangladesh through the bonds of language and literature. She highlighted how young people from both countries deepen mutual understanding by learning each others languages, folk ballads, and literary works, showcasing the vibrancy of cultural integration.
Nilu Akter, a lecturer at the Confucius Institute of the University of Dhaka, shared her insights into Chinese tea culture. She described tea as a philosophy and a bridge that connects hearts and cultures. She encouraged young people to stay curious and explore diverse cultures, using tea as a medium to convey friendship and goodwill.

Zhu Yufan, Deputy Director and Associate Research Fellow of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Cultural Exchange Teaching & Research Office at the Chinese Culture Teaching & Research Department of the Chinese Culture Academy, stated that the joint development of the BRI has brought about more frequent people-to-people exchanges, deeper mutual understanding, and richer cultural interactions between China and Bangladesh, thereby bringing the peoples of the two countries closer together.
Masud Rana, a young representative from China Railway International Co., Ltd. in Bangladesh, shared his experience working at a Chinese company. He stated that the BRI has brought many benefits to his life and the lives of many Bangladeshis, and he looks forward to continuing to work hand in hand with his Chinese colleagues to open a new chapter in China-Bangladesh relations.
Ren Ruike, a Chinese youth representative of PowerChina stationed at Bangladeshs Dasherkandi project, stated that the Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant, built with Chinese aid, can efficiently treat urban sewage from approximately 5 million urban residents in Dhaka. It is a remarkable achievement of China-Bangladesh economic cooperation under the BRI.
The event was co-hosted by China International Communications Group (CICG), the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, and the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh; jointly organized by CICG Center for International Cultural Communication (CICC) and the Department of Archives and Library of Bangladesh; and co-organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka. According to the Memorandum of Understanding for the China Book Corner, CICG will cooperate with Bangladeshs Department of Archives and Library for no less than five years, with a commitment to donate 5,000 books or cultural products of equivalent value.
