Polar Hole Light in Europe's Clouds by Ruth Leedy Carr: The Asimov-Sagan Axis Shift and Mars Collapse Puzzles

Maryland City, Maryland Jun 10, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - Shortly after applying the hollow Earth theory to help explain Edgar Cayce's axis shift prophecies, Ruth Leedy Carr discovered three strong hollow planet hints from Isaac Asimov, plus a prediction that civilization was unlikely to survive to 2010. Asimov stated that future space pioneers would "hollow out the mini-planets" and be living "inside a world." In this 1980 interview, he compared Earth to a spaceship on which "we are used to living on the outside of the hull." Carr began combing Asimov's work, and that of Carl Sagan, for hints of a polar hole shift on a hollow Earth. Her books and newsletters explored possible hints, such as word plays on the name of hollow Earth theorist Marshall B. Gardner. Asimov and Sagan portrayed gardeners as being marshalled, or serving as a marshal, or carrying martial equipment. Gardens themselves could be martial in theme or marshalled in their careful arrangement. After analyzing hints for decades she finally discovered anagram messages, including many that seemed to refer to her as a hollow Earth theorist.

It was undeniable that Asimov was doing riddles. A character whose name included "Tejan" and "Popjens" had to be conveying a message about Asimov's wife Janet Jeppson. Both "Janet Jeppson" and "Asimov" were contained in the name "John Semper Travis," which told of his move into her home. His animal anagrams "greti" and "lamec" clearly referred to "tiger" and "camel." He inserted "ovizam," an anagram of "Azimov," an early spelling of his name, into a long name (1982) which appears to contain a warning about an unstable hollow Mars. Any reference to Ruth Leedy, of course, would be a strong endorsement of the hollow Earth and polar shift concepts, if that reference were clear enough to convince other people that it was genuine.

Shortly after receiving Carr's 1981 book Asimov produced a story entitled "Can You Prove It?" which included the name "Eustace Bartholomew Wasservogel." The message here could be:

"Ruth Anne gave me her book. (She's a brain.) She shows that the Earth is hollow." Asimov's story "Hot or Cold" also appeared around this time. In "Simon Brooke, Lucas J. Atterbury" from that story we find: "In your book (just sent to me) you say a large cataclysm is near, but it is a secret. You are correct." In Foundation's Edge, the head of state for the planet Terminus is Harla Branno, known as Branno the Bronze. In "Harla Branno the Bronze" the message may be: "Ruth Anne's a brain, knows the Earth be hallo." The hero suspects Branno of being a "hollow shell," which seems a strong hint in view of Branno's planetary role.

A series of riddles in the book pointed to a surveillance program conducted by Asimov. In "Lestim Gianni" one could see a perfect anagram of "I am listening." In "Sotayn Quintesetz ABT" the message must be: "It is not easy to quiz anyone about you. "In Gianni's colleague "Leonis Cheng" we find: "I listen. I see each one who goes in." In "Blissenobiarella" there is this: "I be a listener as R.A.L. labors." In "Stor Gendibal" we find:

"I be listening to R.A. Leedi." Adding his companion "Sura Novi" to the riddle, the message may be: "I've been listening to U, R.A. Leedi. I believe U are going to be our savior." In "Namarath Godhisavatta" we find: "I, Asimov, am not very good at saving this Earth. Ruth Ann might save it." Namarath's co-worker "Jogoroth Sobhaddartha" may tell us: "Ruth has a hard job to do, has to do a good job." Likewise, in "Devi Sukhavati, Surindar Ghosh" Sagan appears to have been saying:

"I, Sagan, have tried to save the Earth, as have U and Isaac A., Ruth Anne." In "Hortense, Delancey, Leroy, Rambo" from "Christmas Without Rodney" (Robot Visions) we see:

"Ruth Anne's brother Roy Charles Leedy has shortened name to Rollean." In that story title Asimov tells us: "Ruth Anne under stands what Christ meant with his doomsday hints." In "Agatha Dorothy Lissauer" from "The Critic on the Hearth" (Magic) we can find: "Ruth A. Leedy, you say the Earth is hollow. You are right." In that story title, the message may be: "I cannot teach the correct theory on the Earth. Ruth Anne can." In "There Was a Young Lady" the message could be: "Ruth Anne Leedy, when you wrote that the Earth was hollow, you were not wrong."

"My puzzles can help you save the human race." This is from "Minerva Schlump" in the Azazel collection, where one story title is "Saving Humanity." The name "Theophilus" is given, and may tell us: "I hope youll see these puzzles." In "Elderberry Muggs, Hank" (Azazel), the message may be: "R.A. Leedy, you are a brane. You can learn my (riddle) game. Yu shall be my messenger." In "Rutilan Horder," a top planetary official in The Robots of Dawn, we see:

"Ruth Anne Leedi, U hold a hollow Earth in your hand."
